For those of you who were at the last Blanchard Dinner (which was during the Poke Salad Festival), you may remember that we discussed having a float in this year's Poke Salad Parade. My how time flies - seems like yesterday that we were talking about this. Well, we still plan to have our float and our dinner. The dinner and Decorating Party will be on May 7 at City Hall on Main Street in Blanchard (the same place we had it last year) and it will start at 5:00 P.M. The parade will be on May 8 and it starts at 10:00 A.M. but we must be lined up by 9:00 A.M. This sounds like a lot of fun and we want everyone to come and join us.
The theme of the parade is "A TRIBUTE TO OUR SENIOR CITIZENS" and our float is called "MEMORIES OF THE PAST." We already have the trailer, truck and decorations so come and help. Someone suggested that we wear what we did "back then" such as blue jeans, of course rolled up, and white shirts. However, you can wear anything that you want to wear on the float. Let's just be creative. If some of you want to wear poodle skirts, etc., we would love for you to do that. We also have a very special entertainer who will be riding on the float with us. He is well known to everyone, but you will have to come to find out who he is. What the heck, let's just let our hair down and have a great time. Trust me, you will see people that you haven't seen in a long time. The Poke Salad Festival lasts all day on Saturday and they have a lot of entertainment, i.e., gospel singing, clogging, dinners, street dance, too many things to mention. You might bring your lawn chair for some of these events.
Also, if there is someone you haven't seen in a long time, give us their names and we will "hound" them until they give up and come to our dinners. And some of you haven't ever been and you have no idea what you are missing. It is so much fun to talk to friends that you haven't seen in years. Come on and join us - you won't be sorry. From one year to the next we always lose at least one of our school buddies, so let's enjoy everyone getting together and having some fun because we never know what tomorrow will bring.
We ask that you bring finger foods, chips, dips, desserts, etc., for the dinner. We will furnish the drinks, plates, forks, etc. There will be a $5.00 per person charge to pay for the rental of the building.
Please let us know if you are coming so that we will know how many we are going to have. Also, we will need to know if you are going to ride on the float. Please send this information to Patricia Glenn Watson, 6245 Smith Lane, Shreveport, Louisiana or call me at 318-929-2703 or email to pwatson@shreve.net. We look forward to seeing you there.
